M Lissoni and FORMA

M Lissoni is a London-based transdisciplinary artist and publisher whose work is rooted in what is marginalised, unarchived, silenced. Their research-based practice focuses on the sacred as a tool to transcend personal authorship and embody collective ritual. Their work ponders issues of memory, cultural erasure, gender and mourning as a way of documenting the in-between. Drawing on fragments of objects, visual cultures, found text and traces of oral histories, they engage in decolonial forms of archiving the body, transforming these materials into installations, sculptures, prints, and books.

Forma is a contemporary arts organisation based in Southwark, London. Driven by artists and their ideas, they develop collaborative interdisciplinary projects that challenge existing practices, span multiple artistic disciplines and demand new levels of ambition.
This project was a special one. I got the opportunity to photograph M Lissoni’s work in progress show, a one off, ephemeral, setup,, testing how their set of objects, sounds and image, all deeply imbued with meaning individually, work together within the space of Forma. I had to take the photos very quickly before the show opened, just after the artist finished setting it all up. We ended up in a dialogue about the photos all throughout the shoot. I can’ wait to work with M again, their objects lend themselves to striking photos.
