Gaia Di Lorenzo is a Rome-based artist and educator whose work navigates the complex dynamics of collective behaviors and their influence on self-identification processes. Di Lorenzo’s practice often manifests in intricate, multi-layered representations that reflect the fragmented and misleading nature of collective interactions.
Francesca Pionati is an artist and researcher interested in the relationships between politics, legal systems and the Southern Italian territory. Her work investigates ways in which formal and informal urban architectures and infrastructures retain trauma, as well as strategies of resistance and commoning that emerge in response to institutional violence.
Forma is a contemporary arts organisation based in Southwark, London. Driven by artists and their ideas, they develop collaborative interdisciplinary projects that challenge existing practices, span multiple artistic disciplines and demand new levels of ambition.
Photographing Gaia Di Lorenzo and Francesca Pionati’s work is great fun. They are an artist duo with aesthetics that may seem different at first, but when they produce work together, a new, fresh, yet familiar visual language emerges. In terms of photographing their works, it’s a pleasure, as the works themselves look great from a distance, while contain a ton of intricate details that are a joy to explore. Forma Bermondsey Square is challenging as always, as all work that goes in there is behind a beautiful glass wall, which, of course happily reflects not just the square, but me and my camera as well. Each of my returns I find a new way of hiding from the camera.
